THE EAGLES GOLF CLOSE INAUGURAL SEASON AT WESTVIEW GOLF CLUB

The first season of the Aurora's Special Olympics Golf Team "The Eagles" ended its 3 month program with a longest drive competition, practice time and about 3 holes of golf. This was followed by a super diner graciously discounted by our host club Westview. Throughout this first season, 25 golfers enjoyed learning about golf (some for the first time), practicing new skills and partaking in one tournament in Stouffville. We could not have done so without the use of the beautiful club provided by Mike Nisbet and the special care and attention of his excellent staff. We also couldn't have been as successful without the guidance of Team Manager & Head Coach Nicola McGovern and the 12 volunteers who showed up each Sunday to lead the athletes around the course and varied practice facilities. Registration for next season will take place in April 2012. For more information, please contact Nancy Black aurora@specialolympicsontario.ca

Special Olympics Aurora would like to thank Staples Aurora for their generous support.

On Saturday Nov 14th, athletes from Special Olympics Ontario –  Aurora gathered together at the store at Yonge St. and Murray drive to welcome customers and ask for their support.  Staples “Give a Dollar Share a Dream” campaign has made a real difference to athletes in our community.    Special Olympics Aurora provides unique opportunities to individuals with intellectual disabilities to actively participate at community, regional, provincial, national and international levels of competition.  The program provides a unique opportunity to enrich lives through sport.

There are many generous people and companies in our community that sponsor the club so that our kids can enter into the Special Olympics swim meets and be part of a team!   Over the season we have seen our athletes make new friendships, learn new skills and celebrate successes together.  None of this would be possible without the generous support from our community.

Thank you to Staples, our volunteers and supporters for their ongoing support.
